Mother of trans men killed after having their home invaded, mourns the loss of her son: “I want justice”

Justice is the word that best expresses the main desire of Rosângela Silva, mother of Thadeu Nascimento, a 24-year-old trans man, who died last Friday, 05th, in Bahia. “I'm floored. I lost half my heart. I do not know what to do. I need to know why they did this. I can't live with this doubt. I need the police not to consider this case closed. I want justice,” she declared in an interview with Me Salte. Thadeu was killed after his home was invaded, in the Fazenda Grande 3 neighborhood, Cajazeiras. At the scene, only the backpack with the lunch box that the salesman would take to lunch at work was found. They took his television and also his life. At 24 years old, Têu, as he was called among his friends, was found dead in the São Cristovão neighborhood, in Salvador, around 7 am that same day, according to information from the civil and military police. “Since Thursday (04) I haven’t spoken to him anymore. I am with my husband in the ICU of a hospital. On Friday (05) they called me asking if something had happened because he hadn't arrived at work. I got desperate and started looking,” said Rosângela. “The house was completely torn apart. The gate was closed and without the latch. I asked for help from neighbors, but I got no help. I went to the police station and the police came back with me. The drawers were all overturned and the TV, DVD, camera, router and hair clipper were gone. If they wanted to take everything they could take it, but why did they take their life? I could buy everything back, but I can’t buy life.” The family only discovered the whereabouts of Thadeu's body on Saturday, 06th. On the Bahian website, the mother detailed the victim's physical state: “I had no idea he had been so violent. The body was without clothes. They hit a lot. He was a person without enemies. I don't know why this happened. Whoever did this wanted to expose why they left their body naked. I need the police not to consider this case closed,” he said. She further revealed that she has always supported her son's gender identity and that he was planning to have sex change surgery. “I had so many plans. I was even participating in a draw to go to Disney. But you won’t make your dreams come true.” The case is being investigated by the Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP). Têu Nascimento was buried on Monday, 08th, at the Campo Santo Cemetery, in the Federation, in Salvador.
