Most Brazilian Catholics are in favor of gay marriage, says Datafolha

A survey released by the Datafolha institute showed that the Brazilian Catholic community is becoming more progressive and open to the agendas of the LGBT community. According to the organization, the majority of Brazilian Catholics are in favor of same-sex unions and adoption by LGBT couples. The result showed that 49% of those who declare themselves followers of the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church are in favor of same-sex marriage, while 36% say they are against it. Regarding adoption by same-sex families, 56% are in favor. The scenario changes when those questioned are evangelicals: 68% do not agree with same-sex unions, and 64% believe that same-sex parents should not have the right to adoption. Also according to Datafolha, 77% of Catholics and 71% of evangelicals argue that “there should be a law to punish anyone who embarrasses or offends homosexuals”.
