“Mamma Mia!”: Musical returns to theaters in 2011

The season of the musical show "Mamma Mia!", which debuted on November 11, goes into recess at the end of the year, but the play returns to the show at the beginning of 2011 – and should remain until the end of the first semester. In other words, there are renewed chances to check out one of the most beloved musicals in the world. After all, who hasn't found themselves in front of the mirror humming "Dancing Queen"?

The national version of "Mamma Mia!" It's a minimalist production, in line with international productions, but perhaps that's why it's even more captivating; There are no big sets and spectacular costumes, and what you see are the actors and the music – the things that matter most.

The story follows the original script – already adapted for the cinema, in the charming 2008 film starring Meryl Streep. Sophie is a post-teen who is getting married to the handsome Sky, on a Greek island where she was raised by her mother Donna. On the eve of the union, the girl invites three men to the wedding – one of them is her father, whom she has never met. The three are Donna's ex-boyfriends.

A great highlight of the Brazilian assembly is Andrezza Massei. Playing Rosie, one of Sophie's "aunts", the actress and singer steals the show with her irreverent and debauched performance, in a role that seems to have been tailor-made for her.

Raquel Ripani, as Tanya, also shows a remarkable performance, which surprises – creating good chemistry with Felippe Moraes, who plays the devilish Pepper.

Actor Cleto Baccic, who in the production of "Cats" had already shone playing the cat Rum Tum Tugger with Mick Jagger's mannerisms, this time plays Harry, another of Sophie's possible fathers. Harry is a former hippie who in the end reveals himself to be gay – a character defended in the cinema by Colin Firth.

The soundtrack is a true "who's who" of Abba's repertoire: in addition to the aforementioned "Dancing Queen", there are gems such as "Gimme Gimme Gimme", "SOS", "One of Us", "Thank You For the Music " and the climactic "The Winner Takes It All" – all duly translated into Portuguese.

The result of the assembly leaves nothing to be seen in the international versions. The show has a contagious rhythm and works like clockwork, captivating the audience in countless moments. In short, a must-see program for lovers of Abba, pop, and life.
