Marco Feliciano, accused of homophobia and racism, is chosen to the Human Rights Commission

Even under protests, the Christian Social Party (PSC) confirmed, this Tuesday (5), the name of pastor Marco Feliciano to the position of president of the Human Rights and Minorities Commission (CDHM) of the Federal Chamber.

The decision was taken in a meeting with the party bench, who had to choose between three other parliamentarians: deputies Antônia Lúcia (PSC-AC) and Lauriete Rodrigues (PSC-ES) and deputy Zequinha Amaro (PSC-PA), who They are also pastors.

Marco Feliciano was elected in 2010 for his first term as federal deputy. Since then, the pastor of the Ministério Avivamento church has been collecting controversial statements. In addition to firing back at the LGBT community, stating that the Same-sex love leads to hate and that "AIDS is gay cancer", the pastor even said that "Africans are cursed".

On his official website, Marco Feliciano created a petition where he received approximately 59 thousand supporters in favor of his name to the CDHM. On the other hand, a petition created on the website Avaaz.com has 46 thousand signatures against the pastor's appointment.

Just this week, the ABGLT (Brazilian Association of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites and Transsexuals) released a statement against the nomination of Marco Feliciano to the position, considering the decision contrary tothe “primary objectives” of the commission.
