Mateus Solano comments “alert” that Félix and Niko’s kiss was on Peruvian TV

Responsible for giving the first gay kiss in a TV Globo soap opera, the actor Matthew Solano commented in an interview with the website Ego about the controversial "alert" that the iconic scene between Felix and Niko (Thiago Fragoso) had when shown on Peruvian TV.

On ATV, viewers received the warning message: "The scenes that will be presented below may hurt the sensitivity of some viewers. We recommend that parents do not leave minors in front of the television from this moment on."

Despite the various criticisms that the channel received, Mateus preferred to see the decision with different eyes. "When the kiss passes with warning or when it simply doesn't pass, it's also good. That's because we talk about the kiss in the same way. The issue is put in front of people. The prohibition and the non-ban are equally powerful for us to discuss the long way we have to go towards respecting the sexual orientation of others".

Solano considered it "hypocrisy" for Peruvian TV to calmly show half-naked women and worry about kisses between two soap opera characters. But he considered that the fact that Brazil has shown gay kissing does not mean it is more evolved. "The fact that there was a gay kiss on Brazilian TV does not mean that Brazilian society sees this with great eyes and is very evolved. It does not show that the country is comfortable with this issue… On the contrary! The step (in Amor à vida ) was courageous precisely because of that", says Solano.
