A few days after resigning from Globo accusing the broadcaster of “humiliations”, Matheus ribeiro He was called to work at RecordTV in Brasília – and several of his new colleagues at the station reacted badly to the hiring. Ribeiro, 26 years old, is to date the only openly gay journalist to have presented the National Journal (Globe).

In a letter of repudiation, journalists from the network supporting President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) accuse Ribeiro, indirectly and with a clear homophobic slant, of using his own sexual orientation to gain “media attention” for his “own benefit”, comparing him to journalist Luiz Carlos Braga, fired from RecordTV after 12 years of work, whose position today belongs to Ribeiro. According to the letter, by preferring the gay journalist to Braga, RecordTV exchanges “the certain for the doubtful”.

The text did not reach the leaders of the Brasilia affiliate because the group of journalists responsible for it fears reprisals – in recent months, several journalists have been fired after demonstrating their opposition to internal changes at the broadcaster.
