Mexico: President meets for the first time with LGBT organizations

President Felipe Calderón met this week with 50 LGBT organizations in Mexico and promised to contribute to reducing homophobia and thus also reducing the costs of medicines for sexually transmitted diseases.

At the end of the meeting, Alejandra Gil, from the Sex Workers Support Association, commented that the president will look for mechanisms to make the purchase of medicines for people with HIV/AIDS more efficient.

When Francisco Javier Lagunes, spokesman for the organizing committee of the first march against homophobia, was able to speak, he mentioned the federal Executive's commitment to getting sexual education policies off the ground.

Representatives from other sectors also presented their proposals to avoid homophobia and discrimination. However, the consensus was that there is a lack of resources.
