Thousands of people protest in several cities in France in favor of gay marriage

Last Saturday (14) saw mobilization in France around gay marriage. Thousands of people took to the streets of several major cities to pressure the government to legalize same-sex marriage and the adoption of children by homosexual couples.

Demonstrations took place in large cities such as Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Montpellier, Nantes and Grenoble. In Paris, the protest was held on Sunday.

The objective was also to counter the demonstration organized by conservatives, which brought together 100 people on November 17, to protest against the equal marriage law. The project begins processing on January 19th.

Gay marriage and adoption by homosexuals were part of the speech of the president-elect, socialist François Hollande, during his campaign.

One of the controversial issues in the bill is what excludes the right to assisted procreation for lesbians, which already exists in Spain and Belgium. François left the issue open for Parliament to decide.

Also on Saturday, the Confederation of Catholic Family Associations presented a survey that indicates that for 55% of French people, a family made up of two adults of the same sex is not like the rest.
