Police reported that the 41-year-old militant was shot five times by men who were in a car and fled. He was next to Leonardo Garcia, 18 years old, who was shot and survived.

Guinha was president of the Residents' Association of Conjunto Casinhas do Complexo do Alemão, he is known for founding the LGBT Diversity Group and also for being one of the main characters in the film Favela Gay, by Cacá Diegues and Renata Almeida Magalhães.

According to the newspaper O Dia, Guinha had been receiving death threats for at least three months and, among the hypotheses, is the fact that he promoted the LGBT Pride Parade and had "disobeyed" drug traffickers linked to the local fundamentalist churches and gave support for the Pacification Police Units (UPP) policy.

The burial took place on Sunday afternoon (21), at the Inhaúma cemetery. Several activists, politicians and friends mourned his death. "Horror, sadness, feeling of dejection, impotence, indignation... All of this mixes in me when these crimes happen. Another LGBT activist slaughtered", wrote the federal deputy Jean Wyllys.

Carlos Tufversson, special coordinator of Sexual Diversity at Rio City Hall, says that the loss is irreparable for Brazil's militancy. "CEDS-Rio will monitor the investigations of the competent security bodies and await the investigation of the facts that will lead to the causes of this horrible crime. It is yet another irreparable loss that LGBT activism in Brazil suffers. It is sad and appalling to see a person disappear in this way community leader"
