Ministry of Justice speaks out about gay kiss on TV

The Ministry of Justice, responsible for the Rating Rating of television programs, responded to the letter sent by the Brazilian Association of Gays, Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transvestites and Transsexuals (ABGLT), regarding the non-airing of the gay kiss in the miniseries "Clandestinos", shown by Rede Globo in 2010, saying that "the kiss is free, and will be, whatever it is and regardless of the sex of whoever practices it".

In letter No. 043/11, sent to the press by ABGLT, the Ministry of Justice states that "sexual orientation does not represent a differential element, much less a discriminatory element" at the time the Indicative Classification is carried out. Also according to the ministry, "the exposure of scenes with sexual or erotic content is a Classification criterion alongside the exposure of scenes with content related to violence and scenes with content related to drugs."

Regarding the gay kiss in "Clandestinos", Globo sent a letter in February, signed by the director of Central Globo de Comunicação, Luis Erlanger, pointing out that the broadcaster "works to combat any type of discrimination" and that it values "diversity and respect for differences, and not exactly homosexuality or heterosexuality", and recalled that the gay kiss has already been shown in the serial "Mulheres Apaixonadas" (2003) and in the miniseries "Queridos Amigos" (2008).

The last gay kiss to provoke controversy was in the soap opera "Amor & Revolution" (photo), shown by SBT, between the characters of Luciana Vendramini and Giselle Tigre.
