The American filmmaker died this Monday (22), aged 80. Joel Schumacher, known for directing contemporary Hollywood hits such as the lost boys (1987) Mortal Line (1990) and a day of fury (1993). Schumacher had been suffering from cancer for a year and died in New York.

Costume designer and stylist turned director, he also helmed two big-screen adaptations of Batman, Batman Forever (1995), with Val Kilmer in the role of the superhero, Batman & Robin (1997), with George Clooney taking over the role. Both films are considered, today, fun classics of bad cinema, because at the time they were released, they were poorly received by critics and the public, although they had excellent performances at the box office. These films take a caricatured and homoerotic approach to the DC superhero developed by the director.

Schumacher also has successes on his resume such as 8mm: Eight Millimeters (1999) Tigerland – On the Road to War (2000) by a thread (2002) and The Phantom of the Opera (2004); he also directed episodes of the series House of Cards (Netflix).

Admittedly gay, the filmmaker stated in an interview with Vulture who had more than 20 thousand sexual partners, including famous and married people.
