Phyllis Lyon, iconic LGBT rights activist, dies

Died at age 95 Phyllis Lyon, in the city of San Francisco, USA. The prominent LGBT rights activist and journalist died on the 9th of “natural causes”, according to the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

By marrying his partner since the 2008s in 1950, Del Martin (1921–2008), Lyon made history – the couple became the first in the state of California to marry when same-sex marriage was legalized.

Together, in 1955, they founded the pioneering Daughters of Bilitis, an American organization defending lesbian rights. At that time, lesbian bars were prohibited. Lyon and Martin are known for having helped many LGBT people in need.
