Died Sara Hegazy, aged 30, last Sunday (14).

The pioneering LGBT rights activist in Egypt was arrested and tortured, at the behest of the local government, for holding an LGBT flag while in the audience at a concert by the band Mashrou' Leila.

Sadly, Hegazy committed suicide, having lived with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder caused by the crimes of which he was a victim. She was in exile in Canada.

If you have suicidal thoughts, know that you are not alone. And if you know someone who needs support, reach out to them. Call the CVV (Center for the Valorization of Life), on number 188, or access the entity's official website.
