Taxi driver fined after screaming gay couple kicked out of vehicle

A taxi driver from Philadelphia, in the United States, was ordered to pay a $175 fine for shouting two gay men who had hired his services.

At the time, Joel Batista and Michael Rios were in a bar when they decided to go back together and called a taxi. Inside the car, they talked calmly about their lives, which included men, which made the driver angry.

According to information from the homophobic website “Pink News”, the driver kicked them both out of the vehicle. Before leaving, however, the passengers took a photo of the man's driver's license and, the next morning, filed a complaint against the man with the Philadelphia Authority, the body responsible for regulating transportation in the region.

In addition to the fine, the driver also had his driving license cancelled. To Pink News, Jeol said he thought “it's terrible that he [the driver] has to be penalized, but someone had to show him that this is wrong”.
