A 31-year-old woman who lives in Rio de Janeiro was walking with her mother when she was mistaken for a gay man and ended up being attacked by a stranger last Saturday. Another man who was passing by at the time defended the young woman and pushed the attacker away, preventing the violence from continuing.

“He pushed me and insulted me,” the young woman reported to UOL’s Universa website.
