Woman gets pregnant after anal sex and intrigues doctors

Until recently, pregnancy occurring through anal penetration was a possibility ruled out by medicine – since this only happens when sperm enters the woman's genital canal. Despite this, urologist Brian Steixner, from the Jersey Urology Group, in Atlantic City, USA, contradicted the popular theory, stating that there is a chance of pregnancy through anal sex. The discovery, the doctor explained, happened when he saw a patient with a congenital malformation, a rare event known as “cloacal malformation” – recorded once in every 50 cases. In these cases, the urethra, rectum and vagina remain together, joined by just one channel, without separating these structures into distinct tubes. With malformation, urine and feces are eliminated through the same opening in the perineum, located in the anus region. According to Dr. Steixner, people with “cloacal malformation” can only have the condition reversed through a surgical procedure that would reconstruct the three canals, recovering normal bowel function, bladder control, in addition to sexual and reproductive functions.
