Trans woman Mayang Prasetyo was brutally murdered, dismembered and cooked by her own husband, chef Marcus Volke. The case took place in Australia and was recently publicized. The crime was reported by electrician Brad Conye, called by the cook to solve an electricity problem in his home, caused by broth from parts of his wife's body spilling into the oven, causing an electrical explosion. In testimony, Brad said that as soon as he arrived at the apartment he was faced with what he described as a shocking scene. The electrician called the police to report what had happened. When the police arrived at the scene of the crime, before opening the door, Volk asked Conye to hold his dogs. At that moment, Marcus committed suicide. During the investigation, the authorities reported that upon entering the apartment they found the cook's body lying motionless on the floor under a pool of blood gushing from his throat. In the house, parts of Mayang's body were found scattered around the room, while others were cooking on the stove. MEDIA COVERAGE Coverage of the case by the Australian press was heavily criticized by entities linked to the rights of LGBT people due to its sensationalism and lack of respect for Mayang Prasetyo. According to local press, Prasetyo worked as a call girl to send money to her family in Indonesia. Her husband, Marcus, also did the program, parallel to his profession as a cook. The newspaper Courier, widely criticized for its insensitivity and overexposure of the victim, who had part of his dismembered body printed on the cover of the periodical, retracted its statement saying that the information about the victim's profession was also heavily exploited by the media. Furthermore, the newspaper states that it condemned the “terrible crime against a human being” and that it had no intention of disrespecting the victim or disturbing his family.
