Women sue state against ban on gay marriage

The couple Kate Burns and Sheila Schroeder, arrested last year after protesting against the ban on gay marriage in Colorado, United States, are suing the State to try to reverse the constitutional veto that prohibits unions between people of the same sex.

According to Burns, the constitutional amendment, known as Amendment 43, which was approved in a plebiscite in 2006, “goes against the rights of certain Colorado residents to equal protection guaranteed by law, and unduly blurs the line between the church and the State."

This week, Burns and Schroeder are scheduled to appear in court to be heard about the protest that led to their arrest last September.
