Black, lesbian and peripheral, police officer killed in São Paulo was known as 'smile girl'

Black, lesbian and coming from the outskirts, military police officer Juliane dos Santos Duarte, 27 years old, was nicknamed and known among her friends as the “smile girl”, as she always had a smile on her face. The agent was buried this Tuesday, 7th, in the municipal cemetery of Vila Euclides, in São Bernardo do Campo, metropolitan region of São Paulo. Juliane's body was found last Monday night, the 6th, inside the trunk of a car, in the south zone of the capital of São Paulo. She had two gunshot marks on her body. The PM had been missing since August 2nd. At the time of her disappearance, Juliane was enjoying a bar in Paraisópolis with friends when she went to the bathroom and, upon returning, heard someone complaining about the loss of a telephone device. At that moment, she took out the gun she was carrying and announced herself as a police officer. Shortly afterwards, four men, three of whom were hooded, entered the establishment and asked who the police officer was. They pointed at her, and she was shot by a few shots. The men then loaded her body into the vehicle. A man was arrested this Tuesday. Like Juliane Duarte's friends and family, the agent's former partner, Laisla Carvalho, 24, states that she “didn't have a bad time” with the officer. “She was always happy.”
