On the day against AIDS, MTV shows a documentary that shows homophobia in Jamaica

Globalization. Violence. Homophobia. As a youth channel, MTV is the only broadcaster to talk openly about STD/AIDS prevention and sex with its audience. Without false modesty and without false moralism. As it always does, the TV channel expands the discussion of the problems behind HIV/AIDS next Saturday, 1/12, World AIDS Day.

From 13pm onwards, MTV shows three special programs. They are Xpress, 48Fest: Kenya and Testing Diaries. The first to be shown is 48Fest: Kenya. The special shows how a group of 30 young people scripted, recorded and edited a 3-minute film about women and HIV/AIDS in 48 hours, during the International Women's Summit, in Nairobi, Kenya.

At 13:30 pm, the documentary Testing Diaries shows the journey of three young people through Jamaica, India and Ghana, and the decision they make to take an HIV test. The video goes from how they put together the reasons for taking the test to the dramatic moment when they discover the result.

In the middle of the afternoon, at 15pm, the station shows the documentary Xpress, co-produced by MTV Brasil, MTV Latin America and MTV do Caribe (which is called Tempo), with support from Unicef and the Staying Alive Foundation. The program, produced in HDTV (high definition Digital TV), has images and testimonials captured in Brazil, Jamaica and Mexico. The documentary talks about violence, globalization, politics and their consequences in HIV/AIDS prevention.

In Jamaica, issues of machismo and homophobia that frequently occur in the country are discussed. Important Jamaican artists speak about the subject.

One of the central characters in the documentary is rapper MV Bill. MTV visited favelas with him such as Cidade de Deus, Complexo do Alemão and Pedra do Sapo, the place where the body of journalist Tim Lopes was found and where today there is one of the headquarters of CUFA (Central Única das Favelas). The singer talks about youth and the periphery and the consequences of inequality in the lives of young Brazilians.

In Mexico, in addition to the capital, the team goes to Ciudad Juarez, on the border with Texas and New Mexico, in the USA. The city became known both for drug trafficking and illegal immigration, and for the problem of feminicide. Some consequences and young people's views on the problem were investigated.
