In a period where Rio de Janeiro, the most visited city in the country, is facing setbacks under conservative management, contrary to the rights of LGBTs, an encouragement appears to emerge directly from the state parliament. The Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) approved in the first discussion a bill prepared by deputy Carlos Minc (no party), which stipulates the creation of a day in the state calendar to celebrate LGBT Pride and Citizenship. The project was voted on on Wednesday, 18th. “We made this proposal seven years ago and it will be voted on now. It is important, because it was the strength of the street demonstrations, the majority of the country, more than a million people in São Paulo, 800 thousand in Rio, that made rights advance, especially in the STF (Supreme Federal Court), where it was recognized same-sex partnership”, said the parliamentarian. The bill was created in 2010, was archived in 2011, and has now returned to debate after being approved by the House Constitution and Justice Committee. The date for the final vote has not yet been set.
