New HIV cases show record drop in São Paulo

The capital of São Paulo recorded a record 18% drop in cases of HIV infections last year. The data are from the Municipal Health Department, published by the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo.

The index showed that the number of infected people per 100 inhabitants fell from 32 to 26, and 3.145 new cases were recorded between 2017 and 2018. This drop may be attributed to the implementation of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), which is being made available by SUS.
