PT's gay group rejects veto of the School Without Homophobia Kit

In an "open letter to President Dilma", the national LGBT sector of the Workers' Party declared that it repudiates the veto of the School Kit Without Homophobia, which in the president's words is "inadequate in the fight against homophobia" and "approves a certain sexual option ".

PT's LGBT activists say they want to "publicly dialogue" with Dilma Rousseff regarding the educational material "School Kit Without Homophobia". The activists declare that they were "perplexed by the news" that the president, after meeting with the evangelical group, decided to suspend the kit.

In the letter, the party's gay sector says that it is necessary to "listen to all segments of Brazilian society, seeking compositions and syntheses" and also remembers that the PT was a pioneer in the fight against prejudice, when, in 1981, this issue was already a your flag.

The gay group of the PT reinforces the memory of Dilma Rousseff by reminding her that "the majority of laws and bills guaranteeing rights to the LGBT population, throughout Brazil, are initiated by PT parliamentarians". Next, the text recalls when the then federal deputy Marta Suplicy presented, in 1995, the civil partnership bill.

The letter highlights that, in 2008, the Lula government held the first National LGBT Conference and, consequently, the National Plan for the Promotion of LGBT Human Rights was launched. Gay PT activists still comment on the STF's decision which, in addition to recognizing stable unions between homosexuals, enforced the Secular State, which for them is "a victory for Brazilian democracy".

Finally, they demand President Dilma Rousseff and state that her government has an obligation to "deepen public policies that promote diversity and respect for people". "We do not agree, under any circumstances, with the possibility of the materials prepared by the Escola Sem Homofobia project not reaching their recipients", write the activists.
