The first year… Of several!

“Are you Lê?”, I asked. “Yes, how are you?” was the reply.

After this quick introduction, at the Metro turnstile, Leandro and I climbed the stairs towards the Centro Cultural São Paulo. I didn't know him and I was introduced to him by a good friend Thiago who, due to fate, couldn't put on makeup that day. Instead, he arranged with his friend and the guy was there to do my makeup. Leando, I discovered in our conversation during the assembly, it was Leona Top Flúor. A delightful person with whom I created a great friendship.

Despite the time, Arena Livre (a program created and directed by Pedro Granato), which always took place on Tuesdays at noon, was very full waiting for Cindy Butterfly. It was my first public performance as drag. In my journey as an actor, I have played so many other characters, but it was the first time I would play a drag queen, a character free from a fixed text or something like that. The staff at the house were waiting for me, my friends came to see me and, without a doubt, my boyfriend (we had only been together for five months) also found time in his schedule to see me.

I was waiting for the cue to enter the scene… Waka Waka, by Shakira was the sign that the moment had arrived. Along with all the theater gods, I took a breath of courage and went, beautiful, believing in my beauty… (laughs). After a lot of nonsense I said, I even dubbed Summer Lie, by Eliza G. It was drooling, annoying, confusing and soooo much fun. In short, that was it, pure fun.

The event was so enjoyable – the interaction with the audience and everything – that Pedro asked me to do another presentation on the last day of the program, Arena Livre. And once again, I was lovingly applauded by the audience who were there to see me.

Given this, I decided to focus on something I love to do: communicate. I created a blog, “É scandal, meu amor” and synthesized in it my knowledge about the gay world, about the history of the gay movement in Brazil and I also wrote about the daily life of the LGBT universe. The result was positive and I decided to take a risk and present a proposal to the editor-in-chief of the website A Capa. Paco loved the idea of having a drag queen writing on the site and that's how I got here… Because it was from this blog that Brazil – and why not say the world?? – learned about the existence of Cindy Butterfly.

Therefore, I really want to thank all the people who participated during this first year of my career: my mother, Antonio Americano, Thiago Barreira, Leona Top Flúor, Hudson Nikolic, David de Oliveira, Paco Llistó and the entire family of the website A Capa , Silvetty Montilla, Victor, Luis Vitielo, Vera Hoana, Ricardo Resende and the entire CCSP family, Atoom, Yon, my friends and all the contacts I made through Facebook, Twitter and the like during this one year...

But every birthday is a period of renewal, of rebirth. Of new ideas, of incorporations... And I'll start with one, very simple, but quite symbolic. I will do as the ancient indigenous people did and invoke the power of animals upon me and add one more name. From today onwards, Cindy Butterfly, who already brings the magic of butterflies in her name, claims for herself the cunning and agility of the fox... I call myself Cindy Fox Butterfly!!!

The message is given...
