What Eduardo Campos said about the LGBT group; Politician died in plane crash

The PSB candidate for President died this Wednesday (13) Edward Fields, aged 49, victim of a plane crash. The plane the candidate was on crashed in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo and killed all seven passengers.

LGBT activists, voters and groups, such as Dignidade, from Curitiba, mourned the death of the politician, who spoke out in favor of same-sex marriage and other diversity rights.

In recent interviews with G1 and UOL, Eduardo reiterated his support for the LGBT group, even with conservative supporters. (O gay marriage) is a right already granted by the country's Supreme Court and we cannot effectively, due to our duty to comply with the Federal Constitution, discriminate against people based on sexual orientation. We cannot have this type of discrimination."

In the interview, he stated that gay couples can, just like straight couples, to adopt through expert assessment. "It's a subject that should not be seen based on 'I think' or prejudiced opinion. When it comes to the life of a child who cannot be raised by his family, we are already dealing with a very special circumstance. So, if he goes to another family, whether same-sex or not, a complex and multidisciplinary analysis is needed."

In addition to adoption by gays, Eduardo advocated adoption by anyone who is capable. "The important thing is that the child goes to a place where he is loved, cared for and respected. He can be given to a woman who does not have a husband, or a man who does not have a wife, and be raised with the greatest decency, with the greater respect, and with a lot of love, which is the important thing to create a person".

As for gay couples having children through artificial insemination, Eduardo was also in favor and defended it as a right.

"I think it's a right that citizens have. I think it's possible. And I think these issues are not issues of the State, they are issues of people, freedom, human rights. And I think they are not issues... Sometimes , they gain prominence in elections to try to divide people on religious grounds and I think this is a very outdated thing."

The group Dignidade issued a note of condolence over the death, which said that Campos was one of the LGBT allies. "During Campos' administration, Pernambuco was one of the states that made the most progress in affirmative public policies for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans people."
