Brazilian NGOs already carry out HIV testing using oral fluid

The Ministry of Health partnered with NGOs across the country to distribute rapid oral fluid HIV tests. Around 40 NGOs have already received the material to carry out the tests.
In principle, only groups considered more vulnerable to HIV will be able to access the test carried out using oral fluid extracted from the gums and the beginning of the mucosa. Gays, sex workers, transvestites, transsexuals, people who use drugs, those deprived of liberty and homeless are priority.

According to the Ministry of Health, from July this year the tests should begin to be sold in pharmacies and will become available to the entire population.

To take the test, it is recommended that there is no ingestion of food or drink or contact with cigarettes, toothpaste, mouthwash or any other substance. In general, it is not good to perform any oral activity in the 30 minutes before the test.

The result comes out in a few minutes through the kit's rods. One red line means a negative result and two lines positive.
