Pope Francis is chosen as “personality of the year” by the gay magazine “The Advocate”

This Tuesday (17), Pope Francis turns 77 years old. In addition to celebrating his birthday, the pontiff can also celebrate the title of "personality of the year" for 2013 given by the gay magazine "The Advocate".

The cover of the publication features a quote from the pope, said during an interview in June. "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?", highlights the magazine.

The Pope was marked by expressing a "profound change in anti-gay rhetoric compared to his predecessors". Furthermore, "Equally Blessed", a Catholic institution with homosexual members, stated that the pontiff's words were the most encouraging that a saint has ever said about gays and lesbians.

This is the second personality title of the year awarded to Pope Francis. Time magazine also gave him credit, highlighting the pontiff as responsible for a change in the message of the Catholic Church, in favor of forgiveness instead of condemnation.
