A study carried out by sociologist Ryan Scoats, from the University of Birmingham, shows that “bromance” – a close but non-sexual relationship between two men – is causing young people to increasingly spice up their sex lives and have more and more threesomes. and, mainly, they begin to have greater tolerance towards homosexuality. These relationships generally occur with two men (who do not interact sexually with each other – or interact little) and a woman, thus characterizing the “bromance”. This type of relationship, according to the Daily Mail website, would be strengthening friendships, as it involves a high level of intimacy. According to Ryan, meetings between students involving threesomes were becoming increasingly common. According to the researcher, 10 out of 30 of his students confessed to him that they had had at least one three-way relationship in the last year and six had already had more than one such experience. Some had threesomes with two women and a man and others participated in relationships with two men and a woman. According to the sociologist, when relationships happen between two men and a woman, it is common for men to interact with each other. One of the teacher's students, Matthew says that “it was quite fun, a good experience. There was a bit of banter between the two of us (him and his friend) and it was really good and quite enjoyable” he says. For Ryan, this relationship between friends can be considered a “semi-sexual” interaction. “The trend linked to bromance shows that modern men are more comfortable with their male friends and this indicates that they are changing along with society, which is becoming less homophobic”, he concludes. Other research from the University of Winchester suggests that many men find bromance more fulfilling than their romantic relationships with women. Researchers found that men felt “less judged” by their closer same-sex friends and also found it easier to resolve conflicts and talk openly about what they are feeling.
