London parade takes place despite bomb threats

The organizers of the London gay parade, the largest in the United Kingdom, confirmed today that the event will not be canceled due to the discovery of a car bomb on the route where participants will pass tomorrow.

The Metropolitan Police gave the approval after confirming that the Haymarket region, the main section of the parade and where the bomb was planted, will be open for protesters to pass through.

The organization of the parade does not believe that the car bomb incident will scare away people's participation and expects thousands of GLBT on the streets of the British capital from 13pm, the start of the rally.

The first car bomb, a green Mercedes, was found parked outside the Tiger Tiger nightclub, near Picadilly Circus, at around 1am local time. The police were alerted by ambulance staff, who saw smoke inside the car, and found gas cylinders, fuel and nails in the vehicle.

A few hours later, another blue Mercedes car, parked in a prohibited location in the West End region, was considered suspicious and taken to be investigated in a location close to Hyde Park. Police confirmed that this vehicle also contained gas, fuel and nails.
