Moscow Gay Pride is banned again by the government

The Moscow Gay Pride was once again banned from being held by local authorities. The decision was taken precisely this Tuesday (17), International Day to Combat Homophobia. At the end of April, the government had authorized the event to take place for the first time.

"The reasons for banning the Moscow Parade this year are exactly the same justifications as in recent years – and for which the European Court of Human Rights condemned Russia for violating the European Convention on Human Rights," said organizer Nikolai Alekseev. head of the Moscow Parade.

Despite the ban, organizers continue with the intention of holding the parade on May 28th.

"If something unpleasant happens on May 28, the responsibility will fall on the illegal and irresponsible decisions taken by the government. Today, we realize that the homophobic former mayor Luzhkov has a successor at City Hall," Alekseev added.

The Parade is scheduled to take place on Bolotnaya Square, in front of the European Commission office.
