Nigeria's Parliament approves law making gay marriage a crime; penalty is 14 years in prison

On Thursday (30), the Nigerian parliament took another step towards the total violation of Human Rights. The Chamber of Deputies approved a law that makes gay marriage or any type of "loving relationship" between people of the same sex a crime, in addition to punishing anyone who participates in LGBT advocacy groups.

"Persons who enter into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union commit a crime and are liable to a sentence of 14 years in prison," says one of the excerpts of the measure, which should be signed into law soon by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The bill also determines punishment for those who witness the wedding, or help a gay couple in any way, with a penalty of ten years in prison.
