For the first time, a film starring a trans woman wins the Oscar

The Chilean production “A Fantastic Woman” made history on the night of last Sunday, 04th, during the awards ceremony of the 90th edition of the Oscar – the most important award in the film industry, by becoming the first film with a transsexual actress in the main role to win a figurine. The film won in the best foreign film category and tells the story of a young woman victim of the prejudices of conservative Chilean society. The actress, Daniela Vega, was also the first trans person to announce one of the categories at the ceremony.
