The director of Pedro de Mello State School, in the rural area of Piracicaba (SP), sought out the city's Civil Police after being victim of homophobia.

The wall of the institution, which receives children and teenagers, was spray-painted with a phrase calling him gay and with obscene drawings. The police report was registered as an insult on Thursday (27). The area was painted the same day.

For him, the issue is more serious. "It deserves attention the fact that Brazilian legislation does not provide for the crime of homophobia. Not to mention the inappropriate images, drawn on the wall of a school that receives eight-year-old students", he added.

"The insult was erased with ink, but my morale and emotions are still shaken. And if it were a black director, what would be written on the wall? We have to think about that. The suspect should not answer for insult alone, but for a crime of homophobia", he questioned.

The victim, who preferred not to be named, believes that the offense may have been retaliation resulting from a personal problem between teachers, but clarified that the case had already been resolved internally at the institution, which is located in the district of Tupi, in the rural area. from Piracicaba.

The director arrived at the teaching unit in 2014, lives in the Tupi neighborhood and stated that he participates in the activities of the surrounding community.

"My house is two blocks from the school and I participate in the social life of the neighborhood, I go to the club and church. I believe someone from outside came to give a message," he said.

According to him, the community has always participated in school activities and parent-teacher meetings. "The majority of the neighborhood's population sits on the institution's board," he recalled. “Since arriving at the unit, positive changes have occurred,” he mentioned.

A police report was registered and the police are investigating the case. The wall of the teaching unit was painted shortly after the graffiti was painted on the outside.

The regional administration reiterates that pedagogical work that portrays diversity will be intensified in the unit.
