Pinta: even in a photo? Studies have already proven that it is possible to tell who is gay by photography

Do you hide your mole or are you one of those people who don't care and the more you can show off the better? If you choose the first option, know that even in a photo it is possible to find out whether a person is gay or not.

At least that's what a study from the scientific journal "PLoS One" showed, which revealed that most people can unconsciously identify who is gay or lesbian through a photograph.

In the research, 129 students analyzed 96 random photos. In relation to women, the accuracy rate was 65%. When it came to identifying gay men, the number of correct answers dropped, but it was still high, reaching 57%. The photos did not bear any identification that could refer to the LGBT universe.

Would this be a "gaydar" (gay radar)? "It is important to consider that human sexuality is very complex and full of possibilities, the labels are very artificial. It is worth remembering that certain scientific research often brings conclusions based on questionable data. See, 57% of students identified gay men. Could this Is this number enough to conclude that we can identify someone's sexuality?" asks clinical psychologist Vitor Sampaio.

By living in ghettos, a gay person knows where the heat is tight and this helps him recognize another person. “If you are gay and live with gays, you definitely know just by looking who is and who is not,” says Pedro Lucas, 20, a communication student. "At first, you notice the clothes, the way they dress, that says a lot. Then, just observe, it's very difficult to find a gay person who doesn't have at least one feminine mannerism", believes the student.

According to the psychologist, the stereotype that all gay men have a feminine mannerism is constantly being broken. A good part of the population has the preconception that a gay person will have feminine characteristics and that lesbians will have masculine characteristics, but this does not always happen.

"Thinking that way is the same thing as thinking that every straight man is necessarily rude, rude, a caveman. Despite the correlation between the way of being and someone's sexual orientation, one thing is not necessarily accompanied by the other. In short : Rudeness and feminine mannerisms can be present as someone's way of being, regardless of sexual orientation", explains Sampaio.

For Tiago Santos, 29, administrative assistant and heterosexual, nowadays "you can't say with 100% certainty whether a guy is gay or a girl is lesbian, unless he is very effeminate and she is very 'masculine'" .

Gabriela S., who works in marketing and is also heterosexual, has a different opinion than Tiago. For her, it's easy to recognize a cat on the dance floor who may not be so interested in her, but rather her friend. "In clubs, the way of dancing is the main thing. The quietest people don't spend a minute without fixing or looking at their hair in the mirror, especially in very mirrored places", she comments.

Still on the question of "decipher me or I'll devour you", there are gays who do everything they can to not show any signs. Famous for their "faces", they really want to go unnoticed or, in some situations, they don't feel comfortable living their sexuality in certain environments.

An example is at work, where the scenario has been changing, but there are still cases of people who have been fired simply because they are gay.

"There are several factors that can lead a homosexual to hide his sexuality from other people. The big problem is the intense suffering that this generates: 'I'm like that, but I can't be like that. This 'I can't be' can come from parents, friends, co-workers, or himself in not accepting himself", says the psychologist.

That's why the famous gaydar never goes out of style. You can always open the closet door, and sometimes it doesn't even take much effort. "If you're gay, you don't have much to hide, one way or another they'll find out. With or without a mole, at least once in your life the traditional doubt will arise: is he really?", jokes Pedro.
