PLC 122 will be voted on next week; Marta Suplicy pays tribute to Alexandre Ivo

Senator Marta Suplicy (PT-SP) revealed that she will vote on Chamber Bill 122/06 - which aims to make homophobia a crime throughout Brazil - next Thursday (08), at 9am, in the Senate Human Rights Committee (CDH). On that occasion, the parliamentarian will present the replacement for the old text.

Upon learning of Marta Suplicy's announcement, the fundamentalist senator Magno Malta (PR-ES), who equates homosexuals with pedophiles and necrophiles, declared that he will organize the senators of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Family to "bury" the project once and for all in the Commission of the Senate.

Alexandre Ivo
When speaking yesterday (30) in the Senate plenary, Marta Suplicy paid tribute to the young man Alexandre Ivo, who was a fatal victim of homophobia at the age of 14. Yesterday, if he were alive, the boy would have turned 16 years old. The text replacing PLC 122/06 should be called the Alexandre Ivo Law.

"Alexandre's life was taken away by homophobia, prejudice and hatred. He was savagely tortured and killed", recalled Marta Suplicy, who also paid tribute to Alexandre's mother, Angelica Ivo. "She [Angelica] transformed the pain of losing her son into a fight against homophobia and calls for justice," said the senator.
