Police arrest two suspects of killing gay journalist in Pernambuco

The Pernambuco police arrested two suspects on Wednesday (06) for the death of the gay journalist and activist Lucas Cardoso Fortuna, aged 28, who was found on Calhetas beach, in the municipality of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, near Recife.

According to investigations, Felipe Maurício da Silva Livino, 20 years old, and Leonardo Manoel da Silva, 18 years old, robbed and killed the young man, who was in the city to be the referee for a volleyball championship.

According to delegate Gleide Ângelo, from the Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP), Lucas Fortuna left the inn accompanied by two men, heading towards the rocks of Calhetas beach. There, the journalist had sexual intercourse with one of the suspects.

The men then robbed the journalist, taking a cell phone and twenty reais that were in the young man's wallet. Dissatisfied with the little value, the pair began to beat the boy and then threw him into the sea.

The criminals also tried to enter Lucas' room to steal his belongings. However, they were stopped by the inn's receptionist.

One of the suspects was arrested after carrying out other robberies in the region. The second was found with the victim's cell phone. The police investigation considered the crime to be robbery.

According to the report from the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML), the journalist drowned.
