Serbian police ban Gay Pride in Belgrade

This Friday (30) the Serbian police banned the Gay Pride Parade, which would take place on Sunday (02), in Belgrade.

"We do not ban the Gay Pride Parade, we prevent chaos", explained minister Ivica Dacic to the television station B92. According to him, the reason for vetoing the demonstration was for “security reasons”.

According to the police, homophobic groups were preparing major riots in Belgrade to confront the Parade participants.

In October last year, despite reprisals, Serbian homosexuals held their first Gay Pride march.
