Popó gave an interview to the Cidade newspaper, on Rádio Metrópole, and told a little about the relationship between his son Juan Freitas. The young man has been openly gay since he was 16 and the athlete said he accepts his sexual orientation very well.
“I went with the flow. I couldn't not accept my son with his sexual orientation. He's very intelligent, he's now studied medicine, he's never had any trouble. So, how am I going to discriminate against him?”, he revealed.
Popó also talked about the affectionate nickname he gave his son. “I call him a fagot because he’s my son and I treat him how I want. Affectionately, I call him 'my fagot' and all that. There are a lot of people who don’t like it.”
