Portugal is the European Union country with the least attacks on LGBT people

Portugal is the European Union country that has recorded the fewest attacks motivated by hate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the last five years, according to the FRA (Fundamental Rights Agency of the European Union).

The country accounts for 5% of all attacks in the report; in the last 12 months, the number rose to 30%, making Portugal the 4th best place in the EU for LGBT people when it comes to violence.

According to data collected by FRA, between 2012 and 2019, the number of people who reported having been discriminated against increased by 6%.

Transgender women face the worst scenario in the same period: reports increased by 17%, reaching 60% in 2019.
