Portugal is one of the countries that most protects the LGBTQI+ community

Gay marriage

A survey that was shared by ILGA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transsexual and Intersex Association) shows that Portugal is one of the safest countries for gays, followed by Sweden.

The report analyzed the legislation of UN member countries and was divided into a color map. The colors are in accordance with the protections or sanctions granted to gays in each country. In the study, Portugal was the country that most demonstrated protecting the rights of the community.

Ecuador, Bolivia and South Africa follow Portugal and argue that sexual orientation should not be a reason for discrimination, granting protection to their gay citizens. Mauritania, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan and Afghanistan are countries that impose the death penalty for gay citizens.
