Almost a year after being practically prevented from performing at the LGBT Pride Parade in Pittsburgin the United States, the rapper Iggy Azalea confirmed presence at the Miami edition of the event.
The singer is expected to perform during the three days of festivities starting April 10: “It’s a very important day to celebrate with my fans LGBT and I can’t wait to see my Azaleans there!”, declared the Australian.
The artist will participate in the parade as the guest of honor of the announcer Elvis Duran's car. Together, they will also participate in a gala fundraising event that will go to NGOs dedicated to protecting the rights of lesbian, gay, bi and transgender people.
In 2015, there was a lot of pressure from activists asking Iggy to give up performing at the Pittsburg LGBT Pride Parade.
At the time, several of the singer's old tweets with prejudiced content were brought to light and left many internet users furious. Gay muse Nick Jonas was chosen in her place. To apologize, Iggy wrote an open letter explaining herself:
"Unfortunately in the past, when I was young, I used words that I should not have used. I meant no harm and I deeply regret saying those words. As an adult I would never use them because I understand how derogatory they were."
It remains to be seen how the LGBT community will react to the rapper's presence at this year's event in Miami.
