Mayor Pete Duttigieg, of the city of South Bend, announced last Wednesday (23) that he will run for the Democrats for the 2020 presidential elections, which could make him the first gay candidate in US history.

Even with little chance of winning the elections, Pete announced that he has formed an exploratory committee for his candidacy, which is a very important step before launching into the primaries.

If he wins, he could also become the youngest candidate, as he is only 37 years old. In a nearly two-minute video posted online, Pete describes himself as a reformist candidate. “Right now our country needs a new beginning,” he says in the video.

This would be a big step for the LGBT community in the United States, which suffers greatly under Donald Trump's government.
