Indian Congress President promises to decriminalize gay sex

Like several countries in Africa and Asia, gay sex, or homosexuality to be more precise, is not well accepted by society, and is even criminalized in several federations. The second most populous country in the world, India, which still criminalizes same-sex relationships, promises to take an important step to reverse this scenario of intolerance on the African continent. During a speech in Bengaluru, the president of the Indian Congress, Rahul Gandhi, promised to remove law 377, which makes same-sex relations a crime in the country. At the event, there was also transsexual activist Akkai Padmashali. This, however, is not the first time that the topic has been discussed in Congress. In 2012, the country's supreme court, alleging that, by prohibiting people from freely exercising their sexuality, the judiciary would be invading their privacy, tried to decriminalize homosexuality, but failed. Back in 2016, Congressman Sashi Tarroor also tried to make changes to the country's code, but was blocked. Let's hope that this time everything goes well and, finally, LGBTs in India can be free to be who they are!
