First genetically modified babies are born with resistance to HIV

A Chinese scientist named He Jiankui who works at the Southern University of Science and Technology may have taken a step that completely changed current science. According to the scientist, he managed to alter the DNA of twin babies, and that these modifications can be passed on to the next generations.

The problem is that this type of practice is taboo and prohibited in most countries. China is one of the only countries that authorize genetic modification, but authorization is required. With this, the scientist performed fertility treatment on a couple and altered the genetics of the embryos, creating a special characteristic: the ability to resist HIV infections. The twins were born in November, had their genes altered during in vitro fertilization and may be protected against AIDS.
