Princess Máxima Zorreguieta of the Netherlands, 36, will travel to four of the country's largest cities – Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht – to discuss the best way to solve the problem of the exclusion of homosexuals in society.
According to Frank Van Dalen, from the Dutch Gay Federation (COC), the princess's tour is “historic”. “This is what we have been waiting for for a long, long time. It is the first time that a member of the royal family has participated in a meeting with so much significance for gay people,” he declared. A palace spokesman said: “The princess is in favor of equal rights for all groups in the Netherlands.”
The main challenge of the meeting is to determine how to encourage Dutch students to accept the existence of homosexuality, and learn not to discriminate against it.
