Prince Harry, of the United Kingdom, has been in the news in recent days due to the decision he made with his wife, Meghan Markle, to renounce their royal duties and privileges – but, last weekend, the British press highlighted another side of His Highness.

Harry, who remains a dashing 35-year-old, defended a gay soldier from a homophobic attack when he was a tank commander in 2008.

The revelation came from the mouth of now former soldier James Wharton, who told the website Force News how the prince protected him.

Wharton, who was the first openly gay soldier to appear on the magazine's cover Soldier, says that he got involved in a situation with two soldiers from another regiment and that “essentially, they didn’t like the fact that I was gay.”

The soldiers became aggressive and started pushing their fingers into Wharton's chest, who took refuge in his tank, where Harry was also. The prince noticed that something was wrong, asked what was happening and Warthon told him.

According to the former soldier, Harry was very offended by the situation, got out of the tank, defended him and sent the other two soldiers away.

This is not the first time that James Wharton has spoken of the prince's support when they served together. In 2013, in his book Out in the Army, the former soldier says that he was threatened with beatings by another regiment and was saved because of Harry's intervention.
