Teacher fired from Catholic school in Italy because she is lesbian

A teacher at Sacro Cuore Catholic school in Italy said she was sent away because the principal discovered she is a lesbian. According to the newspaper La Stampa, the dismissal causes controversy in the country.

The professional, who prefers to remain anonymous, states that she was asked by the director whether she is a lesbian, but she refused to answer. “She stated that I was a good professional, but that there were problems because of the rumors,” she says, and her contract was not renewed.

After the repercussion in the media, the school issued a press release, highlighting that it has the right to choose a professional based on whatever criteria it wants. "When I choose a teacher for a Catholic school, I have to take ethical and moral aspects into account. She didn't even answer the questions. I had to know, since I'm responsible for a thousand students and more than a hundred teachers," he declared Eugenia Libratore.

On another note, the school explained to the newspaper II Trentino that the teacher had "made inappropriate remarks about sexuality in the school environment" and that parents and students commented on the speeches to the board.
