Literature professor Danieli Balbi, 27 years old, underwent gender reassignment surgery last Thursday thanks to the help of a crowdfunding campaign run by students at the Colégio de Aplicação at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (CAp UFRJ) , where he teaches,

After the procedure, Danieli posted a video thanking her for the support on her social media page:

"As you can see, I'm in a hospital bed. Fortunately, I just underwent sexual reassignment surgery performed by Dr. Marcio Littleton. Everything went well, the surgery went great, I'm recovering well, despite the pain. I wish thank all of you who, in a way, were responsible for this strength, for this courage, for the project, which shared the urgency of this issue that led me to incur a lot of debt (…)", stated the teacher in the video.

In the comments, friends wrote messages of support.

"What good news!… You are an inspiration for life, everything has worked out… I'm here rooting for you! Count on me!!!", posted a friend.

"Dani!!! what a relief that you're okay! I'm rooting for your best possible recovery <3 you're a very brave woman and inspire me a lot," wrote another.

Danieli was born Daniel and, at the age of 4, he says he was clear that he wanted to change sex, when he saw a video of the singer Daniela Mercury and wanted to be like her.

"It is this surgery that will allow me complete happiness, the definitive meeting of my essence with my body. The result is the possibility of recognizing myself in the mirror, without fear or sadness, living a complete and normal life, like every healthy and healthy woman. accomplished," she wrote on the crowdfunding campaign page.

Created on the Kikante website, the crowdfunding aims to raise R$40 by August 4th, to cover the costs of the surgery, the preparatory exams that were carried out and the post-operative period. For now, donations total just over R$2.500.

"Unfortunately, the public hospital that performed this surgery in Rio de Janeiro – the Hospital Universitário Pedro Ernesto – is going bankrupt. I wasn't even able to join the follow-up program. To top it off, I'm a professor from the State of Rio de Janeiro, which has been delaying our salaries and makes it impossible to receive bonuses. Therefore, it is impossible to cover this expense alone", wrote Danieli on the campaign page.

During the CAp UFRJ June party, held last Saturday on the school grounds in Lagoa, students of Danieli, known as Dani, sold raffle tickets to help the teacher cover the costs of the procedure.

– They were very excited, they said it was for a good cause. The raffle ticket cost R$5 and the prize was a credit of R$100 at a restaurant – said industrial chemistry student Amanda Friasça, a former CAP UFRJ student, who did not actually buy the raffle ticket. – But a friend of mine bought it.
