Teachers are fired for being lesbians and ask for 250 thousand in compensation

Two teachers from Campo Grande will go to court with a compensation claim against the city hall for having been punished in April because they were in a homosexual relationship. They each demand 250 thousand in compensation for moral damages.

One of the teachers, who was hired, had her contract terminated by the city hall last April, and it was no longer renewed. The other teacher, who was permanent, was reassigned and is currently retired due to length of service. The information is from the Campo Grande News website.

In the lawsuit, the lawyer defending the teachers argues that "homosexuals are not second-class citizens." José Belga is the cousin of the mayor of Campo Grande, Nelson Trad Filho.

According to the lawyer, the two teachers went through several embarrassing situations at the rural school where they taught.

"There was a teacher who, when he found out that they were homosexuals, left the group and separated their personal objects such as a knife and fork," he said.

The teachers, aged 52 and 37, say they have always known how to behave in front of their students. One of them had been teaching for 20 years. The mayor said, however, that they were punished because they maintained "inappropriate behavior" in their role.

“If you had your five-year-old son studying there, what would you think?” asked the homophobic politician.
