Bill wants to create bathroom for gays in São Luís do Maranhão

A bill by councilor Augusto Serra (PV-MA), which intends to create bathrooms for gays and transsexuals in public spaces in the capital of Maranhão, has been generating controversy in the City Council. The parliamentarian's argument is that Maranhão society must follow social evolution. Furthermore, he believes that gays and transsexuals would be embarrassed to go to both the men's and women's bathrooms, as reported by Rádio Mirante AM. Augusto Serra stated that he does not consider the project controversial, but of public utility. “We are going to welcome this social class. We are observing a great trend towards same-sex marriage, so, every time society advances, laws have to follow suit”, defended the councilor. The Project should only be voted on next year.
